We were approached by Tony Quail from Maryborough & District Hockey Association to upgrade their warehouse style indoor hockey stadium.
The Sporting Body FIH recommends the following minimum requirements for indoor hockey lighting:
Tony requested that we aim for a minimum of 750 lux whilst staying within a specified budget.
750 lux is a very high level of lighting even for fine assembly detail factory standards. We were going to need a very high power or highoutput Factory style high bay light to achieve the minimum target lighting levels of 750 lux.
We tested a four different high bay models with different beam configurations with a power level ranging from 150 to 240W. The final selection was 10 x high output 160 lm/W 240W UFO highbays in 120° beam angle (LITE-GS-HB-240), and 18 high output 160 lm/W 240W UFO highbays in 90° beam angle (LITE-GS-HB-240). This provided the most cost effective design whilst providing an average illumination of 760 lux.
Please see simulation below for further details.
Average illumination: 760 lux, Uniformity = 0.92, Max/Min = 0.85
Average illumination: 708 lux, Uniformity = 0.59, Max/Min = 0.52
