We were approached by a contractor acting for Norske Skog paper mill to upgrade the Sodium Vapour Lighting at their wood yard for the paper mill. The existing lighting consisted of 1500W sodium vapour lighting.
The brief was to creat two zones of general area lighting, one area of 80 lux to permit night time loading, and another area of 40 lux to allow safe transit through the wood yard.
As per usual we tested three different LED Flood Light models and found our LITE-EL-NED-960W LED Flood Light to produce the best result. Due to the large distances of around 200 x 150m and unusual pole placements we had to use a combination of narrow beam lenses to ensure projection across the area. This entailed using 19 x LITE-EL-NED-960W with 22° lens/beam width and 5 x LITE-EL-NED-960W with 30° lens/beam width.
A light loss factor of 0.8 was used but this could have been set at 0.88.
Note that the area light levels for convenience were simulated at surface rather than 1m above the ground where they would read a little higher.
Average Illumination = 72 lux.
Average Illumination = 40 lux
